Founder

Carey Garcia-Heublein is the founder of Roots & Wings Education Consulting Firm, where she partners with schools, colleges, and community organizations to empower English- and Spanish-speaking families and first-generation college students as they begin the higher education journey. Her work is grounded in research and over 20 years of combined experience in postsecondary pathways programs, teaching English language learners in K–12 education, and culturally responsive engagement.

As a first-generation college graduate herself, Carey understands the challenges families face when navigating unfamiliar systems and spaces and balancing family and personal values. During her master’s program, her research focused on FGCS and their experiences, and her current doctoral research at the University of St. Thomas explores the journey of parents of FGCS during the first year of college. This unique blend of scholarship and lived experience informs her consulting approach, bridging theory and practice to create inclusive pathways to student success.

Carey is a wife and mother of two and has two dogs. She loves spending time with her family, traveling, horseback riding and skiing.
